My creative space.

I made this pincushion about 12 months ago.  It's my favourite, and it has lately had a super workout as there have been pins, pinning and more pins everywhere this week.  One even got really stuck in my machine last night (heart stopper!) but all good now thanks to my clever husband.

Come to think of it, I'm wondering what are the best pins to use?  I mainly pin layers of cotton or linen fabric together, but I'd like to know what are the best.  Any suggestions?  What do you use for a lovely smooth and secure fix?

My creative space.

A crazy old week or two since I last posted my creative space.  It's been pretty chaotic here with usual life stuff...kid colds, lack of sleep and the like, but the creative space has still be powering on!  (I have stuff everywhere mind you.).

This last week I've been working on more of my special project (yes, it's a secret!), and also trying to make up a few more shop items.  It's hard getting time, I tell you, but I'm getting there slowly.

Of course, we've also been making some cupcake liner necklaces, and sorting through the vintage button stash. That part's never a chore.

Finally, a quick Happy Birthday to my beautiful Mum.  She's the best, and we can't wait to celebrate with her on the weekend.  xo

While I post,  I'm desperately trying to find some gorgeous vintage ribbons for a special project...and none of the shops with perfect ribbons on etsy will ship to me in Australia. :-(  One big disadvantage of living this far south....

We were very fortunate to receive the opportunity to try out this gorgeous dress made from a beautiful printed cotton by The Little Dress Making Company.  It's a prototype dress, and it is gorgeous!

These dresses will be coming online very soon in a variety of styles and prints,  so sit tight and keep your ear to the ground for when you can snatch one up!

Happy Mothers Day

To every mother in every place, Happy Mothers Day.

My creative space...

The uptown girl jacket is finished!  I'm so glad.  This jacket was fun to make, but probably not the kind of thing I'd like to 'whip up' quickly.  You need some time for this one, as there is a fair bit of cutting and then gathering and piecing together.  

Still, an enjoyable and satisfying project, and just in time for some chilly Canberra weather and a trip to see this gorgeous little man  (yes, he is just as gorgeous in person!). 

In this reversible jacket I've used a regular pinwale corduroy and Michael Miller Ta dot cotton.  I covered my own buttons.

Cutting and pasting

Ahhh.  Holidays.  Today I've been to the beach, had a nice coffee and nearly finished the Sydney Morning Herald Crossword.  We're doing it every day this week over morning tea.

I've also cut out the Uptown Girl Jacket for Ellie, which is a lot of cutting when you have exterior, lining and padding pieces.  My wadding is now fused and I'm ready to sew! So nice to be there after all the preparation....sewing it up is like painting the last few coats after preparing the wall.

In between sewing I've been having interesting conversations with a 20 month old, eagerly anticipating the arrival of a new member of our extended family, watching Playschool and scraping up food that's been thrown on the floor.   A typical vacation day, really.  Hope your weekend has been fantastic so far.  See you on Monday!
